A Pennsylvania federal jury awarded Finnegan client Promptu Systems Corp. $240 million after a trial finding that Comcast willfully infringed Promptu’s U.S. Patent No. 7,260,538, which covers voice‑recognition technology used in TV interfaces.
The verdict follows a 2024 Federal Circuit decision that vacated an earlier judgment and remanded the case after concluding that the district court had construed key claim terms too narrowly. Promptu originally filed the case in 2016.
Finnegan partner and attorney for Promptu, Jacob Schroeder, emphasized the significance of the outcome, stating: “After nearly a decade of litigation, this verdict stands as a powerful affirmation of Promptu’s pioneering work in voice‑powered TV interfaces and makes clear that Comcast’s products drew upon Promptu’s patented innovations.” He added, “We are deeply appreciative of the court and the jury for their meticulous, sustained attention to the evidence and the discernment they brought to resolving these important issues.”
