Pricing & Alternative Fee Arrangements

At Finnegan, we believe pricing should be a strategic advantage, not a constraint. Our Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) are designed to align our incentives with yours, delivering predictability, value, and results.

“Our goal is to make pricing a source of confidence for clients. We don’t just offer AFAs—we engineer them to reflect the complexity, risk, and value of each engagement.”

— Collin Cusano, Director of Pricing

Our Philosophy

We approach AFAs as a collaborative process. Each engagement begins with a deep understanding of your goals, risk tolerance, and budget expectations. From there, we craft a tailored pricing model that reflects the complexity of the matter and the outcomes you value most.

Our pricing team works closely with attorneys and clients to develop data-informed, performance-driven models. We leverage historical benchmarks, litigation analytics, and client feedback to ensure our proposals are both competitive and transparent.

Plan With Precision

At Finnegan, we believe that clarity and control are essential to delivering value. Our Pricing Team partners with attorneys to develop thoughtful, data-informed budgets that align with client expectations and matter strategy.

We use proprietary tools and historical insights to build detailed budgets and staffing plans. Each budget is accompanied by clear assumptions, so clients know exactly what’s included.

Once a budget is in place, we monitor progress in real time. Our systems provide alerts when actuals approach thresholds, and our dashboards give attorneys visibility into matter activity. This helps to ensure alignment, avoid surprises, and support informed decision-making on matters.

Manage for Success

At Finnegan, we understand the real work of budget management begins after the budget is built and agreed upon. That’s when our Legal Project Management engine kicks into high gear.

By having regularly scheduled meetings, we ensure active communication to review the core budget assumptions and ensure our budgets remain accurate and up to date throughout the budget lifecycle.

Dialogue Driven Results

We believe the key to a successful fee arrangement is constant, intentional communication with our clients. If there are any deviations in scope, we act quickly to communicate those changes to our clients and initiate discussions into any potential strategic or financial impact, to ensure alignment on the best path forward. This collaboration allows us to adjust budgets in real time, reflect revised assumptions, and make strategic decisions that produce favorable outcomes and drive success partnerships.
