The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently released a report that focused on the rise of female inventors. The report found that female inventors are participating in the U.S. patent system at higher rates than the previous three years. In 2016, female inventors accounted for 12.1%; by 2019, that number increased to 12.8%. Law360 contacted Finnegan partner Erika Arner for her thoughts on the report.
Erika said that the rise in new female inventors “highlights a growing pipeline and bodes well for the future of innovation." She added, “It is terrific to see more women participating in the U.S. patent system, both as inventors and practitioners. The USPTO's leadership on this issue is key to inspire companies and IP stakeholders to work to continue improving these numbers.”
