Finnegan Announces New Partners for 2011

 

WASHINGTON, DC - Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the world, announced today the election of eight lawyers to the partnership, effective January 1, 2011. The diverse backgrounds and technical expertise of the new partners range from biotechnology, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals to electrical, computer, and mechanical-related technologies. Their practices cover all aspects of IP law, including patent and trademark counseling, prosecution, licensing, and litigation before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. International Trade Commission, federal district courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

New Partners in Alphabetical Order:

Cortney S. Alexander (Atlanta, GA) focuses on patent litigation in federal district courts and before the U.S. International Trade Commission. His practice encompasses a wide array of technologies, primarily in the electrical, biomedical, and mechanical arts. Mr. Alexander received his B.S. (1999), cum laude, from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology; and J.D. (2002) from Louisiana State University.

Adriana L. Burgy (Washington, DC) practices patent prosecution, opinion work, and client counseling in the chemical, cosmetic, and biotechnology areas. She has significant experience in procurement matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including drafting and prosecution of patents, conducting examiner interviews, filing appeals, presenting oral arguments before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, and handling reissue and reexamination proceedings. Ms. Burgy received her B.S. and B.A. (1995) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; J.D. (2002) from Franklin Pierce Law Center; and M.S. (2005) from Johns Hopkins University.

Mary K. Ferguson, Ph.D. (Cambridge, MA) focuses on patent litigation, opinion work, and strategic intellectual property counseling involving the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical fields. She has a broad range of patent litigation and counseling experience, spanning due diligence and pre-litigation investigations through trial and appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Dr. Ferguson received her A.B. (1990) from Harvard University; Ph.D. (1996) from University of California, Berkeley; and J.D. (2002) from University of Washington School of Law.

Rajeev Gupta, Ph.D. (Washington, DC) focuses his practice on patent litigation in federal district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Beyond his litigation practice, Dr. Gupta advises clients on a wide variety of patent matters, including due diligence, reexamination proceedings, and portfolio development. He has considerable experience in telecommunications, optics, semiconductor devices, and in areas pertaining to computer technology and nanotechnology. Dr. Gupta received his M.S. (1988) from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India; Ph.D. (1993) from State University of New York, Stony Brook; and J.D. (2005), magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.

Robert C. Stanley (Atlanta, GA) practices both patent and trademark law, handling a wide variety of litigation, prosecution, and opinion matters. He currently focuses on pharmaceutical Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) litigation, with particular experience in pre-litigation analysis, electronic discovery, expert discovery, and trial briefing. Mr. Stanley received his B.S. and B.A. (1999) from Furman University; and J.D. (2002), cum laude, from University of Georgia School of Law.

Jennifer S. Swan (Palo Alto, CA) practices intellectual property litigation, primarily in the area of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, before federal district courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has significant experience in cases arising from the filing of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA). Ms. Swan clerked for Chief Judge Rader of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and for Judge Fogel and Judge Whyte of the Northern District of California. Ms. Swan received her B.A. (1992) and J.D. (2000) from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ming-Tao Yang (Palo Alto, CA) focuses on litigating and defending against patent infringement actions in the U.S. International Trade Commission and federal district courts, handling matters relating to various electrical and computer technologies with an emphasis on telecommunications, LEDs, LCDs, memory devices, touchpads, network switches, and optical drives and sensors. He also counsels clients on patent litigation, prosecution, and licensing matters. Mr. Yang received his B.S. (1994) and M.S. (1995) from the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan; and J.D. (2002), with high honors, from George Washington University Law School
