On March 13, 2018, the Federal Circuit ruled in favor of Finnegan client PPC Broadband, upholding the company's $61 million win in a case against Corning Optical Communications. The Federal Circuit affirmed the Northern District of New York's ruling which found that Corning willfully infringed two of PPC Broadband's patents.
PPC Broadband initially filed a lawsuit in 2003 accusing Corning of "serial copying" its patents. That suit settled and Corning redesigned its product, but when the product did not do well, Corning reverted back to its infringing design. PPC Broadband then filed suit in 2011 alleging infringement of two patents.
