A federal judge in Houston has ruled that lawyer William Ramey III of Ramey LLP is personally liable for Finnegan's legal fees due to his "sloppy" and "offensive" handling of a patent lawsuit against Finnegan client Volkswagen. U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal criticized the lawsuit, filed on behalf of VDPP, LLC, for numerous flaws, including filing based on an expired patent and misrepresenting facts. The judge's decision included a detailed list of the case's issues and indicated that Ramey and VDPP are severally and jointly liable for the fees, which are expected to be $121,518. Despite Ramey's intention to appeal, Judge Rosenthal's ruling highlighted the unprofessionalism and inaccuracy in Ramey's litigation approach.
