Bloomberg Law
On June 28, 2019, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) ruled in favor of Finnegan client Promptu Systems, upholding the validity of its patents related to a "method and system of speech recognition presented by a back channel from multiple user sites within a network." Promptu accused Comcast in district court filings of infringing its patents for a voice controlled remote, used for Comcast's XFinity and X1 Entertainment Operating Systems offerings. Promptu was victorious at the PTAB after Comcast failed to prove through inter partes review proceedings that the technology was obvious.
