The AmLaw Litigation Daily
Finnegan attorneys Daniel Cooley, Brandon Andersen, Derek McCorquindale, James Barney, Mareesa Frederick, Alexander Harding, and Christina Ji-Hye Yang were recognized in The AmLaw Litigation Daily’s “Litigator of the Week” column which highlights a case win on behalf of the firm’s client US Synthetic Corp (USS). The Federal Circuit reversed a ruling by the International Trade Commission which previously found that USS’ patent for a polycrystalline diamond compact used in drill bits was patent-ineligible. The appellate court found that the patent claims in question described a specific composition of matter and not an abstract idea. The precedential opinion provided a notable instance where a § 101 invalidity ruling was reversed on appeal.
