Finnegan secured a $240 million jury verdict in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on behalf of client Promptu, after jurors found that Comcast willfully infringed Promptu’s voice‑recognition patent. The decade‑long litigation included a full Federal Circuit reversal in 2024 that revived the case for trial.
IAM spoke with Finnegan partner Jacob Schroeder, who represented Promptu, and he emphasized the consistency of Promptu’s strategy. “We were fortunate to have developed the strategy early on and executed all the way through.”
Jacob added that inconsistencies in Comcast’s defense may have weakened its case before the jury: “In the end, it probably left the jury unconvinced and uncertain as to which, if any, of the defenses they might rely on to overcome Promptu’s presentation.”
