Jin Ooi

Jin represents clients in patent litigation, damages inquiries, trade secrets disputes, and related regulatory and competition matters, frequently coordinating such proceedings across multiple jurisdictions. His work has involved pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices and advanced technologies, including biologics and biosimilars, DNA sequencing, vaccines, transgenic platforms, cochlear implants, and reduced-risk consumer products. 

Jin has extensive experience litigating some of the most significant patent cases in the United Kingdom and beyond, with multiple matters reaching the UK Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. His work includes representing major pharmaceutical companies in landmark disputes over blockbuster drugs, as well as securing interim injunctions and defending patent validity against coordinated generic challenges. 

Jin's litigation experience includes leading complex damages inquiries, most notably a widely recognized follow-on damages case arising from cross-undertakings in pharmaceutical patent proceedings, described as one of the most complex cases ever before the UK Patents Court. He has also been involved in many of the leading cases on interim license declarations in the Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) space involving standard essential patents (SEPs).

Jin’s experience with trade secrets arbitration and disputes includes matters in the aerospace, aviation, and heavy industry sectors. He often works at the intersection of IP and commercial litigation issues, including contractual and regulatory disputes. Jin brings experience in life sciences regulatory advice matters and related transactional work, including support for mergers and acquisitions in regulated industries.
