Jin Ooi

Jin is particularly recognised for his patent litigation work in the life sciences sector. His experience includes working with pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, medical devices, and other advanced technologies, including small molecules, biologics and biosimilars, DNA sequencing, vaccines, transgenic animal platforms for antibody discovery, cochlear implants, and transcatheter heart valves. Drawing on his background in both law and pharmacology, Jin advises clients on the scientific, legal, regulatory, and commercial issues that arise throughout the lifecycle of innovative products. His work has included representing major pharmaceutical companies in landmark disputes over blockbuster drugs, as well as securing interim injunctions, defending patent validity against coordinated generic challenges, and defending against complex damages inquiry claims, most notably a widely recognized follow-on damages case arising from cross-undertakings in pharmaceutical patent proceedings.

Alongside his life sciences practice, Jin has substantial experience in technology-focused patent disputes. He has been involved in several of the leading UK SEP and FRAND matters, including cases concerning interim licence declarations and global licensing disputes. He has also litigated significant long-running disputes concerning non-combustible reduced-risk consumer products.
