Managing Intellectual Property Recognizes Three Finnegan Partners as Rising Stars

October 12, 2022

Managing Intellectual Property

Finnegan attorneys Jeffrey Jacobstein, Dr. Moritz Meckel, and Morgan Smith were recognized as Rising Stars by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP). Rising Stars are up-and-coming IP practitioners in private practice who have made significant contributions to the success of their firms and clients.

Jeffrey focuses on strategic client counseling, due diligence, and post-grant proceedings, with an emphasis on biotechnology and the life sciences. His experience includes prosecuting and appealing applications within the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as larger portfolio management, diligence, licensing, and opinion work. Jeffrey represents clients during inter partes review (IPR) and appeal proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and in reexaminations at the USPTO. He also plans for and acquires patent term extensions for approved biologic and pharmaceutical products in the United States and around the world.

Moritz focuses on patent litigation and appeals in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in physics and is one of  few lawyers in Germany admitted as an attorney at law, a German patent attorney, and a European patent attorney. He represents clients in contentious matters relating to a wide range of technologies such as optics, materials science, medical devices, automotive, and mechanics.

Morgan focuses on trademark and false advertising litigation. She litigates cases and manages enforcement efforts for some of the world’s most renowned brands, representing clients in a diverse range of industries, including sports equipment, apparel, food and beverage, travel, consumer electronics, personal healthcare, video games, pet products and services, automotive, and telecommunications. Morgan’s comprehensive practice includes handling federal district court cases and cancellation and opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). She has worked on winning requests for injunctive relief, requests for seizures of counterfeit goods and related assets, class certification briefs, and summary judgment briefs.
