Home Depot Owes Saw Device Inventor $24M: Fed. Circ.

November 14, 2011

Law360

In a decision issued on November 14, 2011, the Federal Circuit upheld a Florida jury’s verdict of willful infringement and damages, and affirmed that a device used by Home Depot to improve the safety of radial arm saws used to cut lumber for customers infringed a patent held by Finnegan client, inventor Michael Powell. Finnegan partner Donald R. Dunner said of the results, “This was a case of a Goliath fighting a small, independent inventor…The inventor was at a financial disadvantage, but hung in there and prevailed.”
