Finnegan Wins “Intellectual Property Firm of the Year” at the 2026 Benchmark Litigation Awards

March 12, 2026

Benchmark Litigation

WASHINGTON, DC–The 2026 Benchmark Litigation Awards were held on March 11 in New York City, recognizing the most distinguished litigators and firms for their exemplary work over the past twelve months. Finnegan received the award for Intellectual Property Firm of the Year, underscoring the firm’s global patent litigation and trials practice.

Finnegan’s managing partner, James Barney, accepted the award on behalf of the firm. James said, “We are honored to receive the Intellectual Property Firm of the Year award from Benchmark Litigation. This recognition is a testament to the strength of our globally integrated teams who deliver coordinated trial and appellate strategies across key venues in the United States and Europe.” The award follows the firm’s 2026 Benchmark Litigation rankings, where 13 Finnegan partners were recognized as Litigation Stars.

With more than 60 years of IP experience, Finnegan’s global IP enforcement, litigation, and trials practice is comprised of over 250 litigators, including career trial attorneys, more than a dozen former district court law clerks, and nearly 40 former appellate law clerks. Over the past five years, the firm has been involved in more than 500 U.S. district court litigations, more than a dozen U.S. International Trade Commission Section 337 investigations, and nearly 200 appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The firm handles hundreds of cases and proceedings across all forms of U.S. IP litigation, German patent litigation, and European patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation in courts, including U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Supreme Court, German regional civil courts, UK courts, and the Unified Patent Court.
