The National Law Journal
To lead its newly established privacy practice, Finnegan hired the former chief privacy officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Lynn Parker Dupree. Lynn’s initial focus will be on helping clients navigate the complex privacy legal landscape, advising on governance and compliance with privacy laws. In an interview with The National Law Journal, Lynn said, “Many state laws are being promulgated that are thematically similar, but have different nuances. Being able to develop privacy programs that allow for compliance with these incongruent state laws can be challenging and difficult to operationalize. That is what I hope to bring to clients: I don’t just help set the policy, I help implement it as well.”
Regarding the growing demand relating to privacy concerns from clients, Anand Sharma, chair of Finnegan, told the publication, “We’re seeing our clients, who are primarily IP counsel, have an increasing interest in privacy concerns.” He noted that it is because many companies view data as a key asset and need guidance on how to protect it.
He further explained that Lynn fills in a critical leadership role and brings a track record of developing successful business units.
“We wanted to have someone of Lynn’s caliber to lead the practice and grow it from there,” he said.
