Ben Schlesinger, managing partner of the firm's Atlanta office, is a registered patent attorney, focusing on patent litigation and client counseling in the electrical and computer technology fields. He practices before U.S. district courts, state courts, and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

Ben has considerable experience representing companies in litigations from inception through trial and appeal. He represents both patent owners and accused infringers across a wide range of technologies, including software/firmware, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), smartphones, video processing, telecommunications (e.g. 3G, 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi), semiconductors, consumer products, and various other electrical and computer technologies. Ben also counsels clients on licensing, due diligence, and portfolio analysis, as well as IP issues related to open source.

 

Prior to his legal career, Ben worked as a control systems engineer for a large aircraft engine manufacturer. While obtaining his undergraduate degree, he worked as an electrical engineering co-op with several engineering companies, including a large electronics company in Germany.

Experience

Promptu Systems Corporation v. Comcast Corporation

Obtained a $240 million jury verdict for client Promptu in a patent infringement lawsuit against Comcast. The jury found that Comcast willfully infringed Promptu’s patents covering voice recognition technology for TV.

Certain Digital Media Devices, Including Televisions, Blu-Ray Disc Players, Home Theater Systems, Tablets and Mobile Phones, Components Thereof and Associated Software

Represented LG Electronics in Investigation concerning certain media technologies in smartphones and televisions, home theater systems, Blu-ray disc players, and tablets. Following trial, all four asserted patents were found not infringed and/or invalid.

Bell Northern Research, LLC v. HMD America, Inc. et al.

Represented Unisoc Technologies Co. Ltd. in a patent litigation involving mobile phones and tablets. Secured a dismissal of the proceeding under Rule 12 with the Court holding it lacked personal jurisdiction over Unisoc.

Certain Capacitive Touch-Controlled Mobile Devices, Computer, and Components Thereof

Represented LG Electronics in a patent infringement action against an non-practicing entity (NPE) seeking to exclude LG’s smart products with touch panels from the United States. The parties settled shortly before trial.

Daedalus Blue LLC v. SZ DJI Technology Co., Ltd. et al.

Successfully represented DJI in a patent litigation involving drone technology and succeeded in getting the entirety of plaintiff’s damages expert’s report excluded under Daubert on the eve of trial, driving a favorable resolution.

Dynamic Data Technologies, LLC v. LG Electronics Inc. et al.

Defended LG in patent action brought by Dynamic Data Technologies asserting patents directed to image and video processing, encoding, and decoding relating to H.265 and VP9 video codecs.
