Open-source software presents many advantages to users, including cost-efficiency and the freedom to modify and distribute the software, but it is critical to comply with license conditions. Non-compliance risks litigation concerning breach of contract, patent infringement, and copyright infringement. In addition to potentially high damages, other risks may include legal defense costs, disruption to normal business operations, and being forced to stop using or distributing products built on open source.

In this webinar, discussion will include the latest case law surrounding open-source software, as well as practical tips for managing open-source issues. Topics will include:

  • A quick primer on open-source software licensing
  • Recent cases addressing the risks of open-source software licensing
  • Considerations when developing internal policies regarding the use of open-source software, including in the context of GenAI
