White House Refuses to Veto Samsung Ban

October 9, 2013

World Intellectual Property Review

On Tuesday, October 8, the Obama administration “declined to overturn an import ban on various Samsung products deemed to infringe two of Apple’s patents.” Finnegan partner Christine E. Lehman provided insight to WIPR on the administration’s approval of the exclusion order issued by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). She noted that this latest case does not deal with standard essential patents (SEPs). “They have got a lot of attention lately, and it’s a very hot issue whether the ITC can issue an order for SEPs, so that latest ruling was not unexpected.”
