In its 2016 Glass Ceiling report, Law360 ranked Finnegan as a top 100 law firm for female attorneys. Finnegan was just one of two IP boutique firms that appeared on the list. Firms were ranked by examining a variety of factors, including the percentage of partners, both equity and non-equity, who are women; the percentage of associate-level attorneys who are women; and the divide between those two.
Law360 interview Finnegan attorney Sanya Sukduang, who said the firm has been more successful at retaining women by showing that the firm is serious about promoting women. He referred to Finnegan attorney Barbara Clarke McCurdy who has served as the firm’s managing partner and then chairman over the last six years. He said, "That’s six years where attorneys coming into the firm can see that we’re not just talking about opportunities. We think we demonstrated to the younger attorneys that you have a role here, you can succeed here."
