On May 4, 2020, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) decided in favor of Finnegan client Toyota, ruling that claims in a General Electric (GE) vehicle propulsion system patent were obvious and anticipated in light of previous inventions.
In its inter partes review (IPR) petition, Toyota relied on hybrid technology patent applications to invalidate claims in GE’s patent, arguing that the claims were directed “to a well-known propulsion system for a hybrid vehicle having multiple traction drive systems.”
