FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 16, 2023
WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan is pleased to welcome Jennifer Fried to the firm as a partner. Jennifer joins in the Washington, DC, office and will lead the firm’s advertising practice, focusing on challenging and defending advertising claims; counseling on compliance with consumer protection laws, regulations, and industry guidelines; conducting risk analyses; and guiding clients on the development of claim substantiation. Prior to entering private practice, Jennifer served as the assistant director of the National Advertising Division (NAD). During her time at NAD, she resolved competitive disputes as part of the advertising industry’s self-regulatory program; assessed claim support by applying regulatory, self-regulatory, and legal precedent; represented NAD in cases before the National Advertising Review Board (NARB); and developed long-standing, ongoing relationships within the self-regulatory organization. “Finnegan is already doing great work in the advertising law space,” said Jennifer. “I’m excited to bring my experience and help continue to expand the practice.”
“We are thrilled to have Jennifer join the firm,” said Erika Arner, Finnegan’s managing partner. “Her regulatory experience in the advertising arena is a terrific complement to our firm’s practice.”
In helping companies build and protect their brands and market positions, Finnegan has developed broad experience across all aspects of advertising protection. The firm is skilled in navigating the nuances of US advertising law to achieve favorable results for clients, from advertising clearance to all aspects of litigation, including Lanham Act and consumer class action lawsuits. The practice provides strategic counseling in all aspects of an advertising campaign, including vetting for intellectual property, rights of publicity, claims substantiation, regulatory compliance, talent/influencer contracts, and other legal issues.
Working with companies across a broad range of sectors, Jennifer brings extensive experience advising clients on the development of claim substantiation in consumer research, in-home use tests, consumer preference surveys, technical product testing, clinical trials, and ingredient-specific studies. Her comprehensive practice includes working with clients on the use of endorsements, native advertising, influencers, consumer reviews, loyalty programs, social media marketing, “green marketing,” health claims, comparative advertising, and pricing claims.
