ITC Clears LG in Whirlpool Fridge Patent Spat

February 16, 2010

Law360

The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that LG Electronics Inc. did not violate Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 by importing refrigerators that infringe a Whirlpool Corp. patent for ice storage bins. The ITC’s final determination, terminating the investigation, ruled that the technology in LG’s side-by-side model refrigerators does not infringe Whirlpool’s patent and that all but one of the asserted claims is invalid due to obviousness. LG is represented in this matter by Finnegan.
