Chinese IP Courts Accept 30,000 Cases, New Court Idea Explored

January 6, 2017

World Intellectual Property Review

Since its establishment two years ago, China's intellectual property courts have accepted over 30,000 cases and is also exploring the possibility of an appeals court to handle patent disputes. World Intellectual Property Review contacted Ningling Wang, managing partner of Finnegan's Shanghai office, for her thoughts.

Wang said, "We were very excited to hear this announcement. The introduction of an IP appeals court will provide consistent judicial decisions." She went on to explain that when the Chinese government first considered the idea of the IP courts, many practitioners and scholars proposed an appellant level court rather than trial level.
