Pioneer Corp. has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to overturn an administrative law judge's finding that GPS maker Garmin Corp.'s navigation products did not infringe three Pioneer-owned patents. Pioneer petitioned the ITC on Tuesday to review the ALJ's initial determination, correct “its errors of law and fact” and find a violation of Section 337, focusing on two of the three patents-in-suit. Tokyo-based Pioneer, along with its Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. subsidiary, filed a petition with the ITC in November 2009 requesting an exclusion order to halt imports of allegedly infringing Garmin products, as well as a cease-and-desist order barring Garmin from distributing products already in the country.
