Garmin Loses Bid for Pioneer Licensing Info in ITC Suit

May 4, 2010

Law360

An administrative law judge has refused to force Pioneer Corp. to provide more information about its patent licensing activities in Japan to Garmin Corp. in a dispute over three Pioneer patents for navigation technology. The judge denied Garmin’s motion to compel additional responses to several of its interrogatories and documents requests dealing with Pioneer’s licensing activities in Japan, as well as licenses issued to non-U.S. companies. The judge noted that Pioneer was only relying on its licensing activities related to the asserted patents for multimedia displays and navigation systems to establish domestic industry. Pioneer is represented in this matter by Finnegan.
