Boston Scientific Corp. is taking nine U.S., Irish, and South Korean companies to task for infringing patents that cover stents and delivery services for treating digestive diseases. The medical device manufacturer filed a complaint Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, contending it has suffered damages because of endoscopy products that those companies have made, imported, or sold that bear a close resemblance to its own line of such devices, including the WallFlex stent. The suit accuses Cook, Inc., Wilson-Cook Medical Inc., Cook Medical Inc., Cook Ireland Ltd., Cook Group Inc., Standard Sci-Tech Inc, EndoChoice Inc., Sewoon Medical Co., Ltd. and Taewoong Medical Co. Ltd. of infringing U.S. Patent No. 6,007,574, titled “Stent,” U.S. Patent No. 6,533,810, titled “Conical Stent,” and U.S. Patent No. 6,818,015, also titled “Conical Stent.” Those patents are either owned or licensed to Boston Scientific or its subsidiaries, according to the complaint and Boston Scientific is seeking a judgment that the patents have been infringed as well as unspecified damages. Boston Scientific is represented by Finnegan.
