On Friday, July 12, U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee “dismissed a lawsuit accusing the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of using an overly broad definition of a business method patent when deciding which patents to scrutinize under a new American Invents Act program.” Versata Software, Inc. brought the suit in March, after SAP challenged its business method patent in new proceedings at the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Finnegan represented SAP in this matter.
