Jenevieve Maerker focuses on supporting companies both large and small in protecting and leveraging their intellectual property assets. She has extensive experience in domestic and international trademark and copyright strategy, including selection, clearance, registration, policing, licensing, and enforcement of marks and other brand assets. World Trademark Review has described Jenevieve as "a great thinking partner every step of the way," whose "thorough analysis and ability to clearly raise issues and present risks [are] most valuable in informing business decisions from an intellectual property perspective."

Jenevieve's practice spans a broad range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, education, technology, food, fashion, financial services, and consumer products. World Trademark Review notes that Jenevieve is a "valuable contact . . . particularly for pharmaceutical companies, thanks to her sophisticated understanding of the branding issues they face." She represents companies at every stage of development, from innovative startups to established multinational corporations with global trademark portfolios.

In addition to trademark strategy, Jenevieve counsels clients on copyright, social media, right of publicity, false advertising, and related issues. Drawing on her professional background in book publishing, she advises creators, publishers, and users of copyright-protected content on publishing, licensing, and registration matters.

When disputes arise, Jenevieve brings strong advocacy skills and pragmatic tactical thinking to enforcement matters on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. She has experience litigating trademark, trade dress, and copyright infringement and ownership disputes in federal court, and she regularly handles opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U. S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

In addition to repeated recognition and for her contributions to the fields of prosecution and strategy in World Trademark Review's WTR 1000- The World's Leading Trademark Professionals, Jenevieve has been recognized as an "Up & Coming Lawyer" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.

Prior to joining Finnegan, Jenevieve co-chaired the trademark, copyright, and unfair competition group at a general practice firm and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Margot Botsford of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Before studying law, Jenevieve spent several years in the editorial acquisitions and licensing department of an academic book publisher, where she was responsible for author contracts, permissions, and copyright issues.
