PTO Announces Updates to TMEP and TBMP

November 05, 2014

Authored and Edited by Christie B. Hudgins

Update of Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure on October 31, 2014 On October 30, 2014, the PTO issued the October 2014 edition of the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (“TMEP”). The updated TMEP can be found online at http://tmep.uspto.gov, and highlights of the new edition can be found at www.uspto.gov/trademarks/notices/TMEP_Oct2014_Highlights.doc.

The new edition of the TMEP incorporates and supersedes all prior policies and examination guides, including a comprehensive examination guide on service mark specimens issued in August 2014 (see now TMEP § 1301.04).

Update to the Trademark Board Manual of Procedure (TBMP) On November 3, 2014, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) announced that the TBMP (2014) is available online in a new, searchable version. See TTAB home page at www.uspto.gov/trademarks/process/appeal/index.jsp. The TBMP (2014) also remains available in PDF.
