Margaret Esquenet Wins “Best in Copyright” at Women in Business Law Awards

September 22, 2020

Finnegan partner Margaret Esquenet “took home” the award for “Best in Copyright” at the Women in Business Law Americas Awards. The Women in Business Law Americas Awards, hosted by Euromoney Legal Media Group, recognize leading women for their contributions to the practice of business law, as well as firms that have developed the most progressive initiatives towards diversity and inclusion from throughout the continent.

Focusing on U.S. and global copyright, advertising, and trademark law, Margaret brings a holistic, business-first approach to legal issues. As leader of the firm’s copyright practice, Margaret evaluates and protects creative works, including technology-forward software, video games, and databases as well as public-facing logos, art, product packaging, and advertising. Margaret works with clients across industries—from consumer goods and media companies to tech firms and pharmaceutical manufacturers. In addition to an active licensing and counseling practice, Margaret serves as first chair in copyright infringement litigation, both advocating for her clients’ creative efforts and defending them against allegations of infringement. She also advises clients regarding emerging issues on social media platforms, Copyright Office practices and copyright registration, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection enforcement.

Other leadership roles for Margaret include serving as co-chair of the Washington, DC chapter of the Copyright Society of the United States of America and editor of Finnegan’s Incontestable® Blog, a source of news and information about essential decisions, key developments, and evolving trends in copyright, advertising, and trademark law.
