Retail giant ASOS could not escape a copyright suit filed against them by a lace maker over allegedly stealing designs, according to U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams. In a complaint filed in November 2022, Finnegan client Tianhai accused ASOS of selling accessories and apparel with lace designs that “blatantly” and “deliberately” ripped off at least five of their registered U.S. copyrights. In the May ruling, Judge Abrams said ASOS can’t toss infringement claims against Tianhai Lace Co., stating that "the complaint goes considerably further than is required as a matter of law with its detailed copyright-to-alleged-infringement table and its attached exhibits.
