Second Edition of PTAB Trials Guidebook by Finnegan Attorneys Now Available

November 3, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 3, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—The American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL) has released The Practitioner’s Guide to Trials Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Second Edition, an updated resource for practitioners actively involved in managing PTAB trials. Finnegan attorneys Erika H. Arner, Kathleen A. Daley and Michael J. Flibbert serve as the book’s editors alongside coauthors Timothy P. McAnulty, Cory C. Bell, Daniel C. Cooley, Joshua L. Goldberg, and James D. Stein. The editors and coauthors have collectively handled several hundred PTAB proceedings.

"It was great to have the opportunity to publish a second edition of the book so we could add practice tips and details from our collective experience before the PTAB, as well as lessons learned from the Federal Circuit’s growing body of PTAB-related case law," said Arner.

This concise handbook provides practitioners advising clients and planning strategy during PTAB trials with an experienced perspective derived from representing petitioners and patent owners. Organized for ease of use, the book's practice-focused information includes:

  • A quick reference for PTAB statutes and rules, including recent updates and rule changes
  • Lessons learned from the growing body of Federal Circuit case law reviewing final PTAB decisions
  • Strategic considerations for coordinating PTAB trials with your litigation strategy
  • A detailed description of a PTAB trial from petition preparation to appeals to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
  • Handy references synthesizing supporting laws, rules, and regulations

The Practitioner’s Guide to Trials Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Second Edition is available for purchase through www.ambar.org/iplbooks
