A federal appeals court has denied Microsoft Corp.’s bid for a rehearing on the issue of willful infringements in a suit brought by i4i LP over a document formatting patent. The denial contributed about $40 million in enhanced damages to a landmark $290 million award to i4i. The court also upheld a lower court’s injunction requiring Microsoft to remove the technology claimed in the patent from Microsoft Word 2007 sold in the U.S. on or after the January 11 injunction date. i4i is represented in this matter by Finnegan.
