The U.S. International Trade Commission voted Friday to proceed with a Section 337 investigation into whether Apple Inc.'s imports of iPhone, iPad and iPod products infringe five of HTC Corp.'s patents covering hardware and software used in portable electronic devices. The investigation will cover portable electronic devices using certain power management methods and incorporating hardware and software for telephone directories within cell phones. HTC lodged the complaint that Apple infringed the patents by importing into the U.S. the China-made production, and seeking an exclusion order to halt further import. HTC is represented by Finnegan.
