Finnegan Announces Five New Partners

WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the world, announced today the election of five lawyers to the partnership, effective January 1, 2015. The diverse backgrounds and technical knowledge of the new partners ranges from medical devices, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals to 3D printing, electrical, computer, and mechanical-related technologies. Their practices cover all aspects of IP law, including counseling, prosecution, portfolio management, and litigation before federal district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. As Managing Partner James B. Monroe noted, “we are extremely proud of the multi-faceted accomplishments of this year’s class of new partners. Their diverse practices spanning an array of technology areas and IP law reflect Finnegan’s continuing commitment to providing clients with full-service IP assistance across all industries.” 

New Partners in Alphabetical Order:                 

Aaron J. Capron (Palo Alto, CA) has a wide range of experience involving post-grant proceedings, patent litigation, and patent portfolio management. Mr. Capron has been co-lead counsel for several post-grant proceedings, including one of the first cases instituted under the America Invents Act. With more than a dozen years of patent law experience, Mr. Capron counsels clients of all sizes on prosecution, post-grant, portfolio management, and pre-litigation strategies. He has experience in a wide spectrum of electrical, computer hardware and software, and Internet technologies. Mr. Capron received his B.S. (1999) from Iowa State University, and J.D. (2007) from Santa Clara University School of Law.

Anthony D. Del Monaco (Washington, DC) practices patent litigation, primarily before the U.S. district courts and the ITC. His experience ranges from consulting with clients regarding litigation strategy and preparation of all aspects of complaints; conducting depositions of fact, Rule 30(b)(6), and experts on technical and non-technical issues; preparing fact and expert witnesses for direct- and cross-examination at trial; and performing direct- and cross-examinations of witnesses at trial. Mr. Del Monaco works with a broad range of technologies including mechanical, electrical, business methods, medical devices, and semiconductor devices. Mr. Del Monaco received his B.S. (2001) from Northeastern University, and J.D. (2006) from Franklin Pierce Law Center.

Elizabeth D. Ferrill (Washington, DC) focuses her practice on all aspects of design patents, including prosecution, counseling, and litigation. She also has extensive experience in utility patent litigation in the areas of software- and hardware-related technologies. She has appeared before U.S. district courts, the ITC, and the Federal Circuit, as well as the PTAB. Ms. Ferrill has particular interest in intellectual property issues related to 3D printing (additive manufacturing). Ms. Ferrill received her B.S. (1998) from the U.S. Air Force Academy, with academic and military distinction, her M.S. (1999) from Georgia Institute of Technology, and J.D. (2006), with honors, from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Alissa K. Lipton (Boston, MA) focuses on patent litigation and pre-litigation counseling involving a wide range of technologies, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device patents. Ms. Lipton has experience representing clients before U.S. district courts in all stages of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through appeal to the  Federal Circuit. Ms. Lipton received her B.A. (2001) from Johns Hopkins University, and J.D. (2004) from Harvard Law School.

Aaron L. Parker (Washington, DC) focuses his practice on patent litigation before U.S. district courts and counseling clients on global patent litigation strategies. Mr. Parker also assists clients with patent and trade secret portfolio analysis and management, complex patent prosecution, reexaminations, post-grant proceedings, licensing, preparing opinions of counsel, due diligence and clearance analysis. Much of Mr. Parker's work relates to medical device technology and technology relating to the sports and fitness industry, although he also has experience involving a wide range of other technical subjects, including mobile smart phone technology, infant/toddler products, power tools, automotive parts, and drainage and septic systems. Mr. Parker received his B.S. (1999) from the University of Virginia, and J.D. (2003), with honors, from George Mason University School of Law.
