On September 12, a Delaware Federal Court ruled in favor of Finnegan client BMW of North America, and other automakers, citing that Vehicle Operation Technologies LLC’s (VOT) patent infringement claims against the automakers were frivolous. VOT accused various automakers of infringing its patents for a display system that measures torque. The judge disagreed, ruling that VOT disclaimed multifunction displays during patent prosecution and the cars’ manuals clearly detailed multifunction displays. The suits were dismissed with prejudice.
