On Friday, December 6, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments in Alice Corp. vs. CLS Bank Int’l. The case concerns patent protection for computer software. “This is going to affect virtually every industry,” said Finnegan partner Linda J. Thayer. “Nowadays, we’re in a highly connected, wired Internet world where pretty much everything is implemented by software." She explained that the case asks the question: "Where is the line where there is a true invention?” Arguments are expected in March or April 2014.
