A federal judge has dismissed a suit by Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen accusing numerous major technology and e-commerce companies like Google Inc., Apple Inc. and AOL of infringing four web patents owned by Allen's company Interval Licensing LLC, but left the door open until December 28 for Allen to reassert his claims. Judge Marsha J. Pechman of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington on Friday granted motions to dismiss by all the defendants, ruling that Interval's complaint fails to identify which of the defendants' products allegedly infringe. The four patents-in-suit relate to technology used for things such as web browsing and sending alerts over the web, which are fundamental to the ways that e-commerce and Internet search companies operate, according to the complaint.
