Fisher House Foundation Patriot Award Honors Finnegan Pro Bono Program for Disabled Veterans

WASHINGTON, DC - On Friday, June 14, the Fisher House Foundation presented Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP with the Fisher House Patriot Award. Established in 2002, the award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of individuals and organizations supporting the quality of life of military service men, women, and their families.

“We continue to be humbled by the commitment of the Finnegan team to support our nation’s veterans. Their support of Fisher House Foundation has made a profound and lasting impact,” said David Coker, president of the Fisher House Foundation. “Their efforts allow us to help our nation’s wounded warriors, their families, as well as veterans across the country.”

Ronald L. Smith, Finnegan pro bono counsel, said, “This is a great honor. The folks at Fisher House do amazing things for our veterans every day. We are glad to support their mission to ease the burden on our wounded warriors and spur their recovery.”

Finnegan’s extensive Veterans’ Pro Bono Program assists disabled U.S. military veterans. Since July 2008, the program has brought approximately 560 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the Federal Circuit. For the past three years, Finnegan attorneys have devoted more than 8,000 pro bono hours per year to matters on behalf of veterans. In 2012, the firm donated $669,000 to veterans’ charities around the United States, including the Fisher House Foundation.

About Fisher House Foundation

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 20 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $200 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
