Finnegan Appoints New Leadership in Taiwan Gary Ma to Head Fei Han Foreign Legal Affairs Law Firm

WASHINGTON, DC - Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, one of the world’s largest intellectual property law firms, announced today that Gary C. Ma has been appointed managing attorney of the firm’s office in Taipei, Taiwan, which is known locally as Fei Han Foreign Legal Affairs Law Firm. Mr. Ma counsels clients on United States-related patent and licensing matters.

“A large part of my practice over the past 10 years has been servicing clients in Taiwan in patent litigation and strategic counseling. I thoroughly enjoy working with the legal and IP professionals in Taiwan and am thrilled to have the opportunity to work more closely with them and service their needs,” said Mr. Ma. “I also look forward to interacting with and being part of the local business and IP communities, and to continuing Finnegan’s focus on providing IP and legal services, as well as educational and strategy-focused programs.” Mr. Ma’s family is of Taiwanese descent, and he feels at home in Taiwan as he has many relatives and long-time friends there.

A graduate of George Washington University Law School, Mr. Ma practices patent litigation, patent prosecution, and client counseling on U.S. intellectual property matters. He frequently speaks before academic, business, and legal communities in the United States and Taiwan on topics related to intellectual property trends and best practices.

Located in Taipei’s business center since March 2003, Fei Han provides a full range of U.S. intellectual property services, including litigation, management, licensing and counseling, and prosecution of U.S. patents and trademarks. The Taipei office is fully supported by a local professional staff of attorneys, patent agents, and administrative personnel who are fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese. Associate Jyh-Kwang (Matt) Chen, who is also resident in the Taipei office, works primarily with clients in the semiconductor, computer, and communications industries.

“Our Taipei office is an integral part of Finnegan’s commitment to clients in the Greater China region by enhancing accessibility and responsiveness,” commented firm chairman Richard B. Racine. “We are excited that Gary will lead the office and continue the firm’s outreach to businesses and organizations in Taiwan.”
