Associate
William is a registered patent attorney whose technical knowledge encompasses a wide range of complex technologies, including polymers, video encoding, medical devices, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, catalysts, automobiles, and construction equipment. He has experience preparing petitions for inter partes review (IPR) and pleadings for district court litigations as well as conducting legal and factual research in support of infringement and invalidity disputes. William advises clients on all aspects of patent strategy, including validity opinions, landscape analysis, due diligence, and prosecution. While his practice largely focuses on U.S. patent law, William has assisted international clients with drafting their intellectual property policies and supported the firm's practice before the European Patent Office.
As a judicial law clerk, William assisted administrative patent judges (APJs) with adjudicating America Invents Act (AIA) trials and ex parte appeals across chemical, electrical, mechanical, design, and pharmaceutical technologies. William's clerkship also included a rotation in the Office of the Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he worked on matters including Director Review, rulemaking, Precedential Opinion Panel, Delegated Rehearing Panel, and various other administrative law processes. During law school, William served as a judicial intern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
William devotes a portion of his time to pro bono matters, earning him a spot on the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll. He has worked with asylum-seeking clients and represented clients in veterans appeals.
