Emmanuel Onochie's diverse practice includes handling trade secret and patent litigation matters in a wide array of technical areas as well as data privacy matters. His patent litigation experience encompasses litigation related to the Hatch-Waxman Act involving Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA); cases related to the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA): and international arbitrations. Emmanuel's experience in data privacy includes assessing requirements for compliance with data protection laws and conducting risk assessments. He focuses on privacy compliance and governance, such as creating and reviewing privacy policies, negotiating data processing agreements, and providing counsel on international data transfer regulations.
Emmanuel participates in various litigation stages. He drafts documents such as expert reports, discovery requests and responses, briefs, motions, infringement and invalidity contentions, and dispute letters. He researches and analyzes complex legal issues for all phases of litigation. Emmanuel has also drafted expert legal opinions for international arbitrations.
While in law school, Emmanuel spent a year as a legal extern to Chief Justice Patience D. Roggensack of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He drafted briefs, memos, and performed sophisticated legal research. He also interned for a Fortune 100 global biopharmaceutical company, where he helped draft patent applications, met with inventors, drafted responses to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and reviewed complex license agreements.
Outside of his work at the firm, Emmanuel serves as an adjunct professor at Howard University School of Law, where he teaches patent law and public policy courses. He is also committed to his pro bono practice. Emmanuel has been recognized on the Capital Pro Bono High Honor Roll.
