Dan Roland focuses on litigation before U.S. district courts, representing clients in both patent and trade secrets cases. His experience covers all aspects of litigation from pre-suit investigations through trial, including conducting due diligence analyses; developing case strategies; managing discovery; taking and defending depositions; presenting oral arguments; and drafting pleadings, motions, and pre- and post-trial briefings. With more than fifteen years of experience in intellectual property, Dan's background covers the technology spectrum.

Although Dan concentrates on litigation, he also has extensive experience before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) prosecuting patent applications and participating in post-grant proceedings. With an emphasis on mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, Dan's technical background spans a wide array of subjects. He represents clients across technical areas, including pharmaceutical, vehicular, industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, electronics, and sports and fitness.

Dan previously worked for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he was a trial attorney and served as lead counsel in the Civil Division, National Courts Section. He managed all aspects of a dozen-plus cases before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Court of Federal Claims, and the Court of International Trade.

While attending law school, Dan served as a patent examiner at the USPTO, handling U.S. and international patent applications in mechanical technologies relating primarily to sports and fitness equipment. He previously worked as a project engineer for an international general contractor in the construction industry.

While earning his undergraduate degree, Dan worked for the Naval Research Laboratory. At NRL, he conducted research relating to electromechanical properties of various materials, which included performing ballistic testing of elastomeric coatings on metal substrates, carrying out P-V-T measurements on polymers, performing uniaxial extension measurements on rubber at high strain rates, and optimizing a custom-made instrument for high-speed mechanical testing.
