Case Study: FedEx’s Defense Victory Over Intellectual Ventures’ $100M Patent Suit

Just back from their stunning victory in Texas, the patent litigators who represented FedEx in a high-profile infringement suit will travel to Tel Aviv in July for an invitation-only event to share insights in to how they won a patent suit when the odds were stacked against them. In this case, Intellectual Ventures thought it had FedEx beat when it asserted five patents against numerous systems and processes FedEx uses to support U.S. and International package delivery and tracking services. Although Texas is regarded as the most favorable forum in the United States for patent owners, a team of skilled patent litigators disposed of one patent before suit and convinced a Texas jury to find the four remaining patents not infringed and three patents invalid.
