Comparative Global Design Law 2022 Update

March 2023

Bloomberg Law

By Elizabeth D. Ferrill; Clare A. Cornell; Stacy Lewis*

Co-published with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and Bloomberg Law, the second edition of Comparative Global Design Law explains the common, basic framework underlying design law in most countries and outlines the basic differences between the design laws in the top six jurisdictions (China, European Union, South Korea, Japan, United Kingdom and United States). Through a common outline with a common set of examples, each country chapter is designed to allow readers to readily compare the laws and design statistics of different jurisdictions. The book also provides important strategic considerations for readers who embark on developing a worldwide design rights portfolio. The Second Edition updates the law in these six jurisdictions and also adds additional statistics, including those related to litigation and post-grant validity reviews.
