World IP Review (WIPR) Insights released its USA Trademarks Ranking for 2024, a comprehensive guide showcasing US-based law firms and lawyers leading the way in the field of trademark law. Finnegan is proud to announce that partners Douglas A. Rettew and Danny M. Awdeh were recognized by WIPR Insights in its latest rankings report. Douglas Rettew was named “Highly Recommended” for Non-Contentious Trademark work and Danny Awdeh was recognized as “Recommended” for Contentious Trademark matters. Finnegan’s trademark practice was also named in the rankings, with the firm being ranked as “Highly Recommended” for Trademarks - Non-Contentious and “Recommended” for Trademarks - Contentious.
Often touted as one of the nation’s top trademark lawyers, Douglas “Chip” Rettew focuses his practice on trademark, false advertising, and unfair competition litigation, trials, appeals, and disputes. Doug litigates cases involving a broad range of issues, including traditional trademarks, false advertising, product disparagement, rights of publicity, unfair competition, trade dress, design patents, and domain names. He is also involved in advertising issues and counseling, right-of-publicity matters, and trademark and copyright prosecution and licensing. Clients include Under Armour, Bridgestone, the NFL Players Association, Capital One, Subaru, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and PNC Bank. Doug has served as the principal editor for Trade Dress: International Practice and Procedure: USA Section, International Trademark Association (INTA) from 2010-present. He previously served as leader of the firm’s trademark and copyright practice and as a member of the firm’s management and compensation committees.
Named as the 2023 Trademark Prosecution Practitioner of the Year for the Americas by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) and recognized by World Trademark Review (WTR) as ”[o]ne of the best trademark lawyers there is,” Danny Awdeh serves an international clientele with some of the world’s most well-known brands. He has managed high-profile litigations and disputes involving trademark infringement, counterfeiting, unfair competition, dilution, and false advertising. In addition to obtaining favorable verdicts before district and appellate courts, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and trademark tribunals around the world, Danny has negotiated countless business-oriented solutions tailored to the needs of clients’ global business and legal objectives. He has developed effective programs and corporate protocols to stop the importation/exportation of knock-off products, combat online sales of counterfeit and grey market products, and protect a brand’s strength and integrity from generic misuse.
