Press Release

Two Finnegan Attorneys Recognized for Their Commitment to Diversity

July 28, 2021

World Intellectual Property Review

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan attorneys Kara Specht and Linda Thayer were recognized in World Intellectual Property Review’s (WIPR) inaugural 2021 Diversity issue for their contributions to IP and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Kara Specht was recognized by WIPR as a Trailblazer—a practitioner with less than 10 years of experience in the IP industry who has already made a significant mark on the sector. Kara is an active participant in Finnegan FORWARD and works to address issues impacting women attorneys in law firms. She is involved with organizations such as The National LGBT Bar Association and a member of the 2020 class of LCLD Pathfinders.

Linda Thayer was named a Diversity Champion for her commitment to opening doors for aspiring IP practitioners, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or background. Prior to joining Finnegan, Linda worked for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), an organization that advocated on behalf of and provided legal services to gay and lesbian military personnel and veterans negatively affected by the now defunct “Don't ask, don't tell” policy. For over twenty years as an openly gay partner at Finnegan, she has served as a member of the firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group and a mentor to other attorneys and law students, and she has represented Finnegan at The National LGBT Bar Association’s Lavender Law Conference. She is an active participant in the firm’s Finnegan FORWARD women’s initiatives.
