World Trademark Review
Finnegan partners Danny Awdeh, Douglas “Chip” Rettew, and Mark Sommers are recognized by World Trademark Review (WTR) in its 2020 Global Leaders list. In its second edition, the Global Leaders list draws on WTR 1000 and WTR 300 research, bringing together the world’s top law firm and corporate trademark professionals. To qualify for inclusion in WTR Global Leaders, individuals must be ranked in the gold tier of the WTR 1000.
Danny Awdeh leads the firm’s trademark, copyright, and advertising group. He serves an international clientele with some of the world’s most well-known brands and has managed high-profile litigations and disputes involving trademark infringement, counterfeiting, unfair competition, dilution, and false advertising. The WTR 1000 describes Danny as “an unstoppable force, combining outstanding lawyering skills with a genuine concern for his clients’ businesses. His knowledge of prosecution, enforcement and strategy are above and beyond any other private practitioner, and he masterfully balances legal risk with commercial solutions.”
Doug “Chip” Rettew litigates cases involving trademarks, false advertising, unfair competition, trade dress, design patents, and domain names. Frequently touted as one of the nation’s top trademark lawyers, Chip has first-chair jury and bench trial and appellate experience and has argued appeals before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Fourth, Eighth, and Eleventh Circuits and litigates before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Chip has been recognized in WTR 1000 as “[o]ne of the best litigators in the country with an unbelievable success rate,” and “a bigwig in the IP arena” whose “shrewd litigation and trial skills are unmatched.”
Mark Sommers is frequently named among the nation’s elite litigators practicing trademarks, trade dress, product configuration, dilution, unfair competition, false advertising, and counterfeiting, as well as highly praised for his strategic portfolio counseling and plain common-sense approach. The WTR 1000 says, “He is the complete package: a convincing advocate, a masterful strategist and a real-world counselor who adds tremendous value” and “exceeds even the loftiest expectations.” In addition to representing the interests of top-tier U.S. brand owners, Mark also represents the interests of many European and Asian leading brand owners.
