On March 16, 2016, Lex Machina released its third annual Patent Litigation Year in Review report. The report examines key patent litigation trends from 2015 and provides insights about federal district court cases, Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) trials, and U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations. The report also highlights firms that worked on the most new district court patent litigation in 2015 for plaintiffs and defendants.
The report found that Finnegan was one of the top firms that handled patent litigation cases for plaintiffs in 2015, with 71 cases. Finnegan managing partner James B. Monroe said the firm’s appeal for plaintiffs in patent cases is its "tenacity in protecting what [clients] consider to be the crown jewels of their intellectual property. We are an IP-only firm, but we are essentially the equivalent of a general practice firm in the IP world. Given our size, there is no area of IP law for which we do not have specialists, and we draw on that breadth of IP experience to handle the increasingly complex IP issues that our clients face. Similarly, in the patent arena, we have one of the largest groups of engineers and scientists at any firm. We have someone who has experience in almost any technical area that might arise."
