Finnegan Wins Best Diversity Initiative at The American Lawyer 2024 Industry Awards

November 14, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 14, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC—The American Lawyer recently held its 2024 Industry Awards, celebrating the most impactful and innovative firms, departments, and practitioners throughout the legal industry. Finnegan received the Best Diversity Initiative award, which honors firmwide efforts to increase diversity across various areas, including efforts to improve diversity retention and inclusion within the firm, and for its Finnegan IP Summit initiative. Finnegan partner Li Feng was a finalist in the Best Mentor – Law Firm category.

Launched in the summer of 2023, the Finnegan IP Summit is an innovative and impactful initiative designed to boost the number of diverse law students from historically underrepresented communities to pursue careers in IP. Summit students gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in intentionally curated educational programming, networking events, and hands-on workshops. Important components of the Summit include multiple site visits and opportunities to network with stakeholders. The students visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, and a Fortune 500 company. They see and hear from diverse attorneys, leaders, and judges who candidly share their humble beginnings and journeys to success. The Summit ignited confidence and hope in every participant and proved that innovative and impactful pipeline programs can change lives. One participant said, "This was a monumental experience that has permanently shifted the course of my journey in IP."

Earlier this year, The Washington Lawyer spotlighted the initiative and interviewed several students from the inaugural class. Learn more about their experiences here.
