Press Release

Finnegan Signs on to the Mansfield Rule 2.0

July 11, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 11, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan is pleased to announce its commitment to the Mansfield Rule 2.0, which aims to close the gap between underrepresented attorneys in leadership roles at law firms. Named after Arabella Mansfield, the first female lawyer in the United States, the Mansfield Rule was developed by Diversity Lab, an incubator for innovative ideas and solutions that boost diversity and inclusion in law.

“Finnegan is excited to be one of the early adopters of the Mansfield Rule,” said Tim Henderson, Finnegan’s Chief Recruitment & Professional Development Officer. “We are committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting diverse talent, as it is an integral part of Finnegan’s culture.”

By adopting the rule, Finnegan pledges that women, minority, and LGBTQ attorneys will make up at least 30 percent of candidates for leadership or governance positions, including lateral hires and equity partner promotions. Firms participating in the Mansfield Rule are expected to track the progress of their diversity efforts on an ongoing basis. Those that have successfully implemented the rule over a one-year period will become “Mansfield Certified” and can send their newly promoted women and diverse partners to client forums with participating in-house legal departments.
